"Now there are various kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are various kinds of service, and the same Lord. There are various kinds of workings, but the same God, who works all things in all. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the profit of all. .... For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ" 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, 12

Good times ahead!
Last night, we had a good group who ventured onto the Cahaba River and paddled two miles upstream to a water treatment plant, and then canoed back downriver. It was pitch dark about a mile into the trip which made for some exciting times! "Left, left LEFT, there's a tree!" and "Um, I think we should go this way, I see "eyes" up there".

Fun Stuff!
In an effort to get more feedback and make FNF more personalized, please VOTE on the poll in the right column. What interests you and how can we all grow together through God's word? Scroll down and vote right now!
Summer has been kind of crazy with schedules, but we're getting back in the swing of things. Javier suggested that we do some fun things together as a group, so that's what we're about to do.
We need your input on what sounds fun . . .
- Interested in a cultural outing? The Art Museum has some excellent exhibitions we could view and then go out to eat together. The museum is FREE.
- Never been canoeing? This looks like so much fun. Anyone free Sunday night August 10 OR September 7? Let's make reservations! (It's only about $15 per person for an evening of adventure.)
- Summer Film Series at the Alabama Theater looks fun. It's only $6 to watch an old film in a completely restored old theater. Sunday showings at 2pm through the summer. And for Jeff and Symon, they have a link to directions! :)
- Sabbath Picnic at Moss Rock preserve would be great. Several hiking trails near a creek, and some bouldering and rock-climbing also. It's only 5 minutes from the church!
- Sabbath Hike and Picnic overlooking Birmingham at Ruffner Mountain. Hike in 2 miles and look out over the city. Even on a hot day it's worth the view!
- Birmingham Botanical Gardens are gorgeous and FREE. If you've never been there, it's HIGH TIME you go! It's in the middle of Birmingham so it would be a great place to meet on Sabbath afternoon!

FNF Prayer Warriors!
Hey everybody!
here's an apology for being so tardy on our post for prayer requests.
Our moments of prayer for FNF are Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 9 pm. (did we say sundays too?)
Our prayers will ascend all at the same time together no matter where we may be at 9 o'clock !
Please especially uplift:
1. CJ's Aunt who suffered a stroke 2 wks ago and CJ's mother who was in an accident.
2. Chichi's coworker's family (Heflins) as they mourn their loss of a son, husband, and a father.
3. Sarah's summer plans and direction
4. Toyin as she is now in Massachusetts taking her Neuro course and as she searches for a new summer church family.
5. Aquila's visa
6. Simon who was sick (but is better now hopefully ;) )
Last week's FNF was at Sarah's place.
A Warm welcome to new friends who joined us: Aquila, Franc, Toyin, and Latonya!
We did a simple yet a powerful study on the Second Coming.
If you would like a copy of the study, please email simplisarah@gmail.com
This week's FNF will be at Chichi's place (more info will be posted).
If you would like to host the Friday Night Feast for the next week, please let us know! =)

June 6 FNF
Come on down to the Thompson's for FNF. We'll be discussing the book of James which is very short, but somewhat overwhelming.
We see in the Book of James a challenge to “walk the walk” and “talk the
talk” of a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. While our faith walk, to be
certain, requires a growth of knowledge about the word, James exhorts us to not
stop there. Many Christians will find this reading challenging as James presents
us with 60 obligations in only 108 verses. It is hard-hitting as he asks us in
verse 1:23 to look at ourselves in the mirror and then straighten ourselves up.
He focuses on the truths of Jesus’ words in the Sermon on the Mount and
motivates us to act upon what He taught. (This take from here.)
Let's talk about why it was placed in the Bible and what we can glean from it in light of the message of grace and salvation.
Here's what we're going to do since it's getting pretty tricky to be done before 11pm.
Eat something light at home (I mean light, no big fancy meal or anything) and then come on over to our house for homemade ice cream, and chips and dip.
See you at 6:30pm!!!

Nature Dwellers
For those of you who couldn't make it, you missed a really amazing trip, and we missed you too! Cheaha State Park was beautiful all weekend. Perfect weather (except for that hour of pouring rain we got on Friday), incredible food (like the fabulous spread of Kenyan food the guys brought Friday evening), amazing conversations and storytelling (Saturday night was most memorable when Enoch led out in a group storytelling effort, and we played Mafia), beautiful memories and a priceless weekend we all want to remember forever. Camping is always an experience, but this one was exceptional when people from so many parts of the world, so many cultures and backgrounds could all share being together in God's gorgeous creation, having so much fun!
Here's some pics (ChiChi I need yours too!) from the weekend:

Directions to Camp
It's finally here! We gonna be sleeping under the stars tomorrow night!
If you're wanting to find out what to pack, you can check the webcam and current weather conditions.
For directions from Birmingham just Mapquest or Google Map it.
From Birmingham or Atlanta areas - From Interstate-20. Take exit # 191. Turn South on U.S. Highway 431 for approximately four miles, then turn on the access road to get to Highway 281 South to the Park (Watch for the Cheaha Resort State Park Signs).
As you get closer to the park, look for signs to the Lake and Campground #3 area. Turn left there and take the first road left. We will probably be here. If not, just ask where Primitive or Semi-primitive camping areas are and look for our cars!
We will be leaving as early as possible (around noon or 1pm) but we need people to help bring some stuff as it won't all fit in our car. Just give me a call if you can take a tent or a cooler!
Looking forward to hanging out! Sarah has some ideas for Saturday night games! That crazy girl!
Food on the Fire
OK, the general plan for the food this weekend is:
Friday Night Supper - Symon & Jeff will cook for everyone.
Sabbath Morning - Pancakes, eggs, tofu, potatoes, OJ, fruit (camping breakfast is a big deal, so it'll be good!)
Sabbath Lunch - everyone bring whatever they would like (PB & J, sandwiches, chips, drinks, fruit, snack mix, etc) just bring enough to make yourself a lunch. We will probably be out hiking or swimming so whatever sounds good to eat!
Sabbath Dinner - Camp stew (carrots, potatoes, onions, veggie meat, spices,) cooked in the fire, Juice, Smores, Caramelized Apples (cooked in the fire)
Sunday Breakfast - Pancakes, eggs, OJ, fruit, whatever is left!
Sunday Lunch - leftovers or whatever you want for hanging out or hiking again.
I'll get everything for all the listed meals and we'll just divide up the cost. Symon & Jeff shouldn't have to pay since they are providing a meal for everyone.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for meals instead of what is listed? Just leave a comment and let me know. I'm totally open! I won't get groceries until Friday morning!
If anyone is in the market to buy a tent, now would be the time!!! I'm getting a little worried about the tent situation/ :(
Cheaha Camping Trip
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Cheaha State Park May 23,24! Even if you can't come to camp, come on out for Sabbath to hang out, hike, swim and relax together. In keeping with tradition, we will also feast. Camping food is always delicious, so plan on eating well!
Now, I'll openly warn you: THIS IS NOT LUXE CAMPING BY ANY STRETCH! We're primitive camping, which means, we have a piece of land to pitch tents on, and a pit of fire to cook over. That's about it. Bring whatever you think you may possibly need.
It's coming up soon! If you haven't already, please let us know if you are coming. Here is a short list of a few things you will need if you have never camped before:
Hoover Feast
Feasting will be at Birmingham First Church in Hoover this week.
Here's the plan: Sarah is going to run through our church service for May 31st so we get a better idea of who's involved and what we want to convey.
We'll also have singing and praising!!!, and share our favorite scriptures and why they are our favorites.
Everyone welcome! Come'on this one will be easy!
Yummy, soft delish' Sandwich bread will be provided.
Everyone bring Fixins;
mayo
PB & J
chips
veggies
burgers
juice
anything you like to eat on a sandwich . . .
Bring a friend, bring a Bible, and we'll see you there at 6:30pm!!!
(Park on the side where you see cars)

Ordinary Attempts
Ya'll missed out! Waffles, eggs, tater tots and OJ were on the plate and we ate by candlelight on the back deck. Kellie joined us from UAB dental school, and since this girl knows everyone, we'll have some more join us soon!
Discussion revolved around our call to be disciples of Jesus and what that means in a practical sense each and every day. It was recommended that everyone check out Doable Evangelism to read some really touching stories about people reaching out in the name of Jesus to share His love in common and uncommon circumstances.
So . . . even though you missed the Feast, you still have an assignment to complete!
Click on the link above, read a few short posts about Ordinary Attempts at sharing Christ, and go out and DO IT! Pray that God will lead you into a scenario where you can get out of your comfort zone and do something you wouldn't normally do. Nothing fancy. Just reach out and connect with someone in a real way!
Report back next week at Joseph's! Chocolate will be served to the people who have a story to tell!
See ya soon for another Feast-ola!
Rebekah's Feast
This last Friday night, we met at Rebekah's place to enjoy hot dogs, salad, cake and a discussion about what it means to be living in "the last days". The group continues to grow and evolve and it was such a blessing to be able to hang out, connect, and share to bring in the Sabbath.
(And yes, I realize most of us look ridiculous here, but it's the best I've got! :)

Greetings!!!
I hope everyone's week is going well!
As always, it seems that there are more than a million and one things in our way we have to get thru before we get to the end of the week...and it seems that the more we pray, more darts of trials and temptations are thrown our way...but let's not forget what we discussed last wk.... "Heaven is CHEAP enough!!" =)
It was great seeing everyone last week although we got started off about an hour behind schedule >_< And thank you Joseph for hosting the fabulous "feast" in more than one way.
We missed you Tre & Karah & Livie & Treson! =)And welcome to Marcus (sp?) & Dennis who joined us last week! We hope to see you on a regular basis!
This week our FNF will be at my place.
Thanks to my three exams this week and a upcoming practical...
our "feast" this week promises to be quite simple. =)

Announcement:
I believe for this week we had decided to take a break since many people are on Spring Break.
Hope that everyone has the MOST fabulous Sabbath and Wknd.
Although we don't celebrate Easter like the world does (ie. rabbits and eggs) we do celebrate "Easter" or the celebration of His resurrection and what He's done for us on the Cross.
May this Sabbath be a meaningful one as we contemplate the life of the ONE who
came, lived, died, and rose for US!
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you the following Friday 28th for another wonderful "Feast" !
Blessings & Happy Sabbath!
Conversation & Stories
This past FNF we had a great group. Although there was something different planned to study, the conversation diverged into this:
What has kept you in your faith, and what has helped you realize that God is real?
Everyone had the opportunity to share their stories and life experiences that have allowed them to realize that God is real and to realize that we are indeed comitted to our faith experience.
It was a really meaningful time for me, and I felt that I got to know each of you a little better than before! Thank you!
